Downtown Charleston Transit Study

Improving Transit in Downtown Charleston!

The Downtown Charleston Transit Study will evaluate the needs and opportunities to improve transit services for residents, workers, visitors, and current CARTA riders. The study will identify and program investments to develop a refined downtown bus network and transit priority infrastructure. The study will also provide recommendations that align with the implementation of Lowcountry Rapid Transit and BCDCOG’s Long Range Transportation Plan.

Project Timeline

Last fall, we analyzed system operations and heard from community members about changes needed to support commutes and other trips Downtown. Now, we are putting together new concepts for transit service on the Peninsula, including proposed changes to local bus and DASH routes. BCDCOG will bring draft concepts back to the community for feedback in February. We will be hosting an online survey from February 14 to March 13 and will be getting input from riders at bus stop pop-ups on February 21 and 22 (see image below for locations and times). Follow BCDCOG on Instagram, Facebook, or X to get updates on this project.
