Lowcountry Go is a regional partnership of the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments, the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration and employers and stakeholders in the Tri-County region. Working together, the program focuses on reducing traffic congestion and improving quality of life for our region.

Lowcountry Go connects real people with real solutions and supports carpools, vanpools, public transit, walking, biking, emergency ride home, and many other programs that encourage behavior changes among commuters. In addition, Lowcountry Go works with regional employers to promote sustainable commute options in the workplace, such as work flextime, staggered shifts, and incentives.

The Lowcountry Go Vanpool Program provides eligible groups of four or more commuters with a 7 or 15 passenger van to use to commute to and from work. Vanpooling is an easy, convenient, and inexpensive service that connects people throughout the Tricounty area who are interest in alternative transportation options. Emergency Ride Home

We want people to share rides to work, but that may mean riders may feel stranded should an emergency arise. BCDCOG’s Emergency Ride Home Program is a reimbursable program for Lowcountry Go users. This program is used through registering on our commuter web application, Ride Low Go. After you’ve registered, when you have an emergency and need a ride home from work, pay for your transportation method of choice and then submit your trip details and receipt though the Reimbursement request on the LowcountryGo.com website (link to be added).

The program will reimburse up to $55 each use for up to three (3) uses per calendar year.

*Tips for rideshare services are not eligible for reimbursement.

List of emergencies that constitute use of EHR:

  • You or an immediate family member suffers from an illness or severe crisis.
  • Unscheduled overtime and will miss the normal commute home.
  • Impacted due to a vehicle breakdown
  • Another type of emergency and the ride is approved by the BCDCOG Vanpool Coordinator, and BCDCOG

The Emergency Ride Home Program does not cover personal errands, pre-planned appointments, or instances where you may be working late without supervisor’s authorization; verification from your employer may be required.

The emergency ride home program is available to any current participant of the vanpool program with, a signed rider agreement on file and whose monthly fares have been paid, during your groups’ regular operating hours. Your employer may have a guaranteed ride home program; if so, speak with your employers Employee Transportation Coordinator. There is a very limited budget for the Emergency Ride Home Program. Abuse of the program will be evaluated on a case by-case-basis. BCDCOG is not responsible for any ride taken without authorization. BCDCOG has the sole right to approve or deny any ERH request at any time. Criteria for the ERH program is subject to change at the discretion of BCDCOG. Other restrictions may apply.
