NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING CONCERNING APPLICATION
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on July 26, 2021 at 5:00 p.m., the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments will host a VIRTUAL Public Hearing on behalf of Berkeley County concerning three (3) applications to be submitted to South Carolina Department of Commerce, Grants Administration for Community Development Block Grants. Berkeley County is requesting $459,267 in grant funding related to three (3) separate projects as follows:
Berkeley County is seeking $147,252 in Public Services grant funding in support of a partnership with the Trident Area Agency on Aging (TAAA) to provide meals and supplemental food to homebound seniors throughout the county. Funding from this grant will go towards the purchase of additional meals to meet the home-delivered meal demand, supplementing the TAAA food pantry so that they may provide emergency and supplemental food resources the purchase of insulated/cooler bags for deliveries; the purchase of a freezer for the TAAA food pantry and resources to coordinate fresh produce distribution events with the Lowcountry Food Bank.
Berkeley County is seeking $66,990 in Public Services grant funding to provide for the purchase and installation of kitchen appliances and associated electrical fittings for the Tri-Community Center, a community-based facility located in Cross, SC, so the center may resume operating a senior food service program.
Berkeley County is seeking $245,025 in Public Facilities grant funding to renovate and upgrade the Tri-Community Center so the center may resume operating a senior food service program. Upgrades to the facility will include the purchase and installation of new sinks, a water heater, HVAC system, lighting, replacing the inadequate electrical system, new fire suppression system, associated demolition, new exterior doors and headers, asbestos testing and abatement if required, painting, and construction of a concrete pad adjacent to the building
This public hearing and the matters to be discussed are subject to the provisions of Berkeley County’s Citizen Participation Plan, developed in anticipation of participation in the State of South Carolina’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, providing for the participation of the citizens of the County in the planning and implementation of community and economic development projects which will involve CDBG funds. The Citizen Participation Plan is available for review at Berkeley County Administration Building, 1003 Highway 52, Moncks Corner, SC 29461 from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday.
