The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments (BCDCOG) is a regional planning agency assisting municipalities within the tri-county region of South Carolina, to develop local and regional plans, as well as provide local governments with planning and technical support to improve the quality of life in the region.

The Business Services Coordinator is a professional who builds effective connections between private businesses and the workforce development system across the region. The intent of this position is to enhance working relationships between the Workforce Development Board and area businesses, economic developers, and the SC Works Trident Career Centers, including the provision of accurate and complete information regarding the availability and eligibility for workforce development business services.

  • Assist with leading the LCC project: Convening Networks, Communications, facilitating meetings, developing meeting agendas, etc., and other duties as assigned
  • Promotes on-the-job training programs: identifies and contacts local businesses and employers to solicit participation; conducts on-site meetings to identify employment needs, and to establish, expand, or improve employer utilization of department services; provides information and answers questions; assists in preparing and finalizing contracts; coordinates and facilitates client placement; and provides guidance and direction to employers, clients and department staff as needed.
  • Promotes Incumbent Worker Training (IWT) program: assists businesses with completing program applications; reviews applications for completeness and accuracy; prepares application summaries and submits to the committee for approval; provides information and answers questions regarding contracts, forms, and program requirements and processes; verifies reimbursement requests; delivers payment to businesses, and obtains closing documentation.
  • Partners with business and industry leaders to develop recruitment, retention, and training strategies that align with business needs.

  • Provides leadership and direction of staff support and resources to ensure successful project deliverables of workforce services contracts.
  • Partners with the Project Director to identify system and process improvement opportunities that build organizational capacity.
  • Identifies potential business development opportunities and referral sources to achieve increased job placement levels.
  • Enhances organization visibility and brand through professional networks and organizations that foster collaborative partnerships.
  • Gains an understanding of key business initiatives, performance evaluations, and budget resources to ensure implementation and delivery of services.
  • Coordinates networking and strategic recruitment initiatives to support business customers and connect job seekers to employment opportunities
  • Demonstrates sound judgment in ensuring compliance and administering policies and procedures.
  • Serves on work groups and manages special projects and assignments as required.
  • Provides effective training and support and supervises staff performance.

Requires Bachelor’s Degree and three years of experience in workforce development or related business model.
